Grovetown is a city in Columbia County, Georgia, in the east-central part of the state within the Augusta metropolitan area and the Central Savannah River Area. It lies along the I-20 corridor just west of Augusta and north of Fort Eisenhower, a major U.S. Army installation. At the 2020 census, Grovetown had a population of 15,577, and it is the largest of Columbia County's two incorporated cities. The city has grown substantially as the Augusta area has expanded westward and as Fort Eisenhower has developed into one of the region's largest employers. That growth has brought new residential subdivisions and commercial development along the major highway corridors, while the city's older core retains a small-town character. The presence of the Army installation gives Grovetown a distinctly military-friendly identity, with many active-duty families and civilian employees choosing to live in the city. Public education is provided by the Columbia County School District, which is consistently regarded as one of the stronger districts in the Augusta region. The district operates elementary and middle schools and four high schools, with students zoned by geographic area. Grovetown offers parks, greenways, and a full calendar of community events managed by the city's Leisure and Recreation Department, including Spring Fest, a July 4th celebration, and a Christmas Parade. Gateway Park, one of Columbia County's newer facilities, is located in the city. With I-20 and U.S. Highway 78 providing direct routes into Augusta, residents enjoy convenient access to the region's medical centers, shopping, dining, and the cultural and recreational offerings of the broader Augusta area.
